It's been confirmed by Variety that the entire franchise collection will leave the streaming service on August 31. The movies set for removal include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. While these movies are leaving HBO Max, fans in the US can still stream them elsewhere. All eight films were added to Peacock on July 1. HBO Max debuted in May 2020 with the entire main Harry Potter series, but they quickly left the service after just 90 days and jumped to Peacock in the fall of that year. HBO Max swung back and renewed the rights starting September 2021 for a period of one year. While the main Harry Potter series is leaving HBO Max soon, members in the US can stream the three spinoff films in the Fantastic Beasts series on the platform. Beyond those, the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary special is available on HBO Max. Looking ahead, the new boss at Warner Bros. is reportedly interested in creating new Harry Potter content for HBO Max and took a meeting with J.K. Rowling to discuss what could happen. It was reported in January 2021 that HBO Max was looking to develop a live-action Harry Potter series, though whether or not it's still happening is unclear.
